Field Notes: How Do We Make Space for Curiosity, Magic, & Wonder?

9/03/25

Greetings, seekers of light, resonance, and what whispers to your soul.

What would happen if you intentionally designed a space for curiosity, magic, and awe?

This past week, I helped someone install a 150-foot zipline—a new one to complement another already on their property. And yes… this one was long, fast, and high.

(For clarification: this someone was vying for “Nana of the Year!” I loved this energy—someone willing to create spaces that instill physical challenge, excitement, strength, curiosity, and more for her grandkids. Talk about leaning into what matters! But I digress.)

Once it was installed, I decided to take the first ride myself. And oh… the things that came up.

Will I fall? Can I handle the speed? Do I have the strength and coordination? Will I be okay going this fast?

The answer: I did fall… the first time. No harm done, but it was a humbling reminder that I hadn’t quite lifted both legs around the little round seat quickly enough. As I dropped about four feet to the ground, I held onto the seat so it wouldn’t shoot down the cable. I paused, regrouped, and tried again.

This time… I flew. Shock, awe, and exhilaration all around me as I christened the new zipline.
Oh, what a feeling!

Each question, hesitation, and surge of adrenaline reminded me exactly what it feels like to step into a space that challenges, excites, and stretches you—a space designed for growth, learning, and play.

Maybe we’ve been missing the mark in our everyday lives. Instead of just reacting to whatever comes at us—like flipping through a handful of TV channels, limited by what’s available—we have the opportunity to curate the spaces we inhabit.

Imagine intentionally choosing what stays and belongs in your choreographed spaces: one for meditation, one for sharing a meal with those we love, one for self-care, one for play… each space designed to support curiosity, growth, and joy.

This is exactly what the Mirror of the Soul event is about. We create a magical, intentional space where sound, color, and guided meditation come together to invite clarity, insight, and messages for those who are present. Just like the zipline, it’s a space where stepping in—even if it feels daring—opens the door to growth, play, and discovery.

Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:

Design your space for growth.

Take a moment this week to intentionally create a small space where curiosity, play, and reflection can flourish. It can be physical—a corner for journaling, a spot for meditation, or even a tabletop for creative projects—or energetic, like setting aside time where your mind and heart are free to explore.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I want to invite into this space?
  • What energy, objects, or rituals support curiosity, joy, and learning?
  • What fears or doubts am I willing to step past in order to fully enter this space?

Then… step in. Sit, move, create, meditate, or simply breathe. Let it remind you that growth and insight often come when you dare to show up fully, even if it feels a little daring—just like taking that first zipline ride.

Rachel's New Guided Meditation: "A Walk in the Woods"

(An example of creating a special space for yourself)

For when you’re far from the forest, but your soul is still reaching for trees.

Ready to begin a meditation practice, but unsure where to start?
Start here.

This 5-minute guided walk isn’t about doing it “right.” It’s about stepping out of the noise and into your own breath…your own truth.

Because sometimes, before you write a new headline for your life, you first need to scrap the old script, go outside—even if only in your imagination—and remember what truly matters.

This brand-new meditation is a first-up offering just for you, my Field Notes subscribers. Consider it a little thank-you for being here, for reading, and for walking this path with me.

Let’s take the walk together → [Click here to listen]

How about a little virtual high-five?
If something here sparked a shift, a smile, or a quiet “yes” inside, this is an easy way to say,
“That touched me.”
No pressure—just gratitude and a heartfelt thank you for showing up.

10/23/25 Hey there, quiet alchemists, truth-tenders, and rememberers of what matters! quintessence This fascinating term dropped back into my orbit this week. I love being reminded of things I once deeply pondered and now carry within my being. And when I’m reminded of them...is like a spark or a bolt of lighting...a reverberating AHAH moment! This word comes from the Latin words quinta essentia. Quinta being “fifth” and Essentia being “essence”. But what is quintessence? “Ancient and...

10/17/25 Greetings, brave feelers and quiet seekers….travelers of both the outer world and the inner one. If you were to go to my blog and read the entry I wrote on September 8th, 2024 here is what you would find…. Change Working in the outdoors I've had the pleasure of being witness to change each and every day. How the light hits the river water in the morning, the sounds of insects and birds and the rippling water over rocks. It's easy to notice change when you're in awareness of your...

10/01/25 Greetings, fellow wanderers, wild-idea dreamers, meaning makers, and seekers of clarity, courage, and quiet joy! I see you. Because I am you… and you are me. “Wherever we insist on pushing our differences on others, we feel separation. We name this separation resistance, laziness, loneliness, depression, anxiety, or some kind of lack in ourselves. Then we claim these as ‘who we are’—I am resistant, I am lazy, I am lonely, I am anxious, I am stupid, I am unappreciated, I am unworthy,...
