Field Notes: What Could Unlock If You Held the Key?

9/17/25

Welcome, edge-dwellers, light-bringers, and keepers of the key.

Think back to a moment in your life when you were handed “the key to the kingdom,” so to speak—when you realized you were free to make your own choices…and equally responsible for your own mistakes.

One of those moments for me came in the summer of 1993, stepping off a plane in Louisville, Kentucky, and onto a bus bound for Fort Knox. I was headed to the Army ROTC basic training course. I couldn’t have known how those weeks would stretch me, mold me, and teach me. But I do remember the startling freedom of standing on my own—falling in line (literally, while marching) with the rules and regulations, pushing myself to meet the physical, mental, and emotional tests that came one after another. It felt, in a very real way, like I held the key to my own future. Because I did.

And here’s the thing: that hasn’t changed. I still hold the key. Every experience that crosses my path is, in some way, drawn by the energetic footprint I’m cultivating. Which means I hold the key—not just to what I’ve lived, but to what comes next.

Imagine how differently we’d live if we fully believed this—if we woke each morning knowing just how much power we carry in the simple act of choosing.

So I’ll ask you: what would you invite in, if you knew you held the key? Better still, what would you create? What if manifesting is less about waiting for life to deliver…and more about daring to unlock what’s already within reach?

Sometimes that begins with space-making. Clearing out the clutter—literal or emotional—that no longer serves you. Letting go of what no longer fits. Opening the door so there’s room for what you’re longing to call in.

Other times it begins with creation. Sketching out a trip just for the fun of it. Launching a project. Shifting your finances. Building a relationship. Tending to your health. Expanding your knowledge. Or simply expressing yourself for the joy of it.

The form doesn’t matter. What matters is remembering: the key has been in your hand all along. And part of wielding that key is tending to your vibration—because what you consume, who you surround yourself with, and the energy you allow in your orbit all shape what you attract. Raising your vibration is about choosing what uplifts, inspires, and aligns with the life you’re calling in. The clearer the frequency you cultivate, the more powerfully the key in your hand can unlock what’s waiting for you.

And the more we tend to our vibration, the more easily that key turns. Sometimes that’s as simple as stepping outside to breathe in fresh air, putting on music that stirs your soul, moving your body, or choosing silence over noise. Each small shift raises your frequency—making space for what you truly want to invite in.

Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:
Turn the Key

This week, choose one small place in your life where you’ve been waiting for permission—or waiting for “the right time.”

Instead of waiting, give yourself the key.

Maybe it’s cleaning out a drawer or closet to make space for what’s next.
Maybe it’s signing up for that class you’ve been eyeing.
Maybe it’s sending the message, making the call, or taking the first step toward something you’ve been dreaming of.

Whatever it is, let it be tangible. A real action that reminds you: you hold the key.

When you take that step, notice how your energy shifts. Notice how doors you thought were locked begin to open—because you dared to turn the key.

Something for the Path

Here’s a piece of music I stumbled upon a couple of years ago, and it’s become part of my almost-daily rhythm. The lyrics carry layers that seem to unlock something deep inside, and the melody itself feels enchanting.

Gajumaru by Yaima. Enjoy!

I’m passing it along in case it wants to find a place on your playlist too. https://youtu.be/AC_f-f3nsVM?si=w0ptD553BZatpRXT

I’m thrilled to share that another gathering is in the works—and I can feel its pull in my bones.

Save the date: Sunday, October 5
2–4 PM at Elk Haven Wellness Center, Brevard, NC

I’m thinking to call it “Harvesting Your Wishes” in honor of the Full Harvest Moon the following night. Expect a sound bath, guided meditation, those coloured bottles you loved last time…plus a few surprises and twists I’m crafting especially for this gathering.

More details (theme, ticket info, etc.) will be coming soon. If your heart whispers “yes” to this—mark your calendar now.

How about a little virtual high-five?
If something here sparked a shift, a smile, or a quiet “yes” inside, this is an easy way to say,
“That touched me.”

No pressure—just gratitude and a heartfelt thank you for showing up.

10/23/25 Hey there, quiet alchemists, truth-tenders, and rememberers of what matters! quintessence This fascinating term dropped back into my orbit this week. I love being reminded of things I once deeply pondered and now carry within my being. And when I’m reminded of them...is like a spark or a bolt of lighting...a reverberating AHAH moment! This word comes from the Latin words quinta essentia. Quinta being “fifth” and Essentia being “essence”. But what is quintessence? “Ancient and...

10/17/25 Greetings, brave feelers and quiet seekers….travelers of both the outer world and the inner one. If you were to go to my blog and read the entry I wrote on September 8th, 2024 here is what you would find…. Change Working in the outdoors I've had the pleasure of being witness to change each and every day. How the light hits the river water in the morning, the sounds of insects and birds and the rippling water over rocks. It's easy to notice change when you're in awareness of your...

10/01/25 Greetings, fellow wanderers, wild-idea dreamers, meaning makers, and seekers of clarity, courage, and quiet joy! I see you. Because I am you… and you are me. “Wherever we insist on pushing our differences on others, we feel separation. We name this separation resistance, laziness, loneliness, depression, anxiety, or some kind of lack in ourselves. Then we claim these as ‘who we are’—I am resistant, I am lazy, I am lonely, I am anxious, I am stupid, I am unappreciated, I am unworthy,...
