What if your past keeps sneaking into your present? — Field Notes with Rachel Dickson

07/02/26

Greetings Quiet Revolutionaries, Attention-Guardians, Peace-Keepers, and Field-Shifters.

I've had one of those light-bulb moments that changes how you see everything.

It happened after Sunday's Wildhearted Gathering...and now I can't stop seeing it everywhere!

Is it possible that I intentionally bring my old self (as in...I habitually bring it’s frequency signature forward) into my current space-time-continuum?

If this is true, is it also possible that this is in fact why I’m blocked from attracting my biggest dreams and desires into my life? Because I’m perpetuating my past into my present due to it’s comfort level?

Let me explain.

Sunday’s Wildhearted Gathering was all about frequency and specifically about identifying our frequency habits and identifying that we are all receivers and projectors of frequency.

We project our frequency through our thoughts, our emotions and through our internal state.

Is why when you walk into a space you can immediately pick up on vibes from people completely across the room.

So this is basic frequency 101 stuff right? And I’ve been working to understand frequency and how it effects my life for a while now.

But when I realized that I have frequency habits...it got my attention!

Because here is something that I noticed: I turned on an old television show a few weeks ago and the sound of the intro song zapped me right back to my childhood. All the memories came flooding back.

Rockford Files.

Remember that show? My sister and I weren’t allowed to watch it because conveniently it came on when it was bedtime for us. (In the 1970’s bedtime was 8 o'clock)

My parents watched Rockford Files religiously every week. I can sing you the melody to the intro song right now. That’s how many times I heard it (from the top of the stairs)...it became part of my childhood memory frequency bank.

However, I didn’t recognize this at first. What I did recognize was that I wanted to watch this show. I’d never seen it before...but there was such a warm familiarity to it. So night after night I sat down and watched an episode or two of Rockford Files.

And then it struck me. What I was actually doing...was recreating the frequency of the feel good moment when my parents were calm and basically as a team watched this show. And it made me feel good as a kid that they would do this together.

Like it was a sacred space for them. (And I truly think it was.)

Yet, here I was 45 something years later watching this show and reliving the feeling of what that all was like back then! Crazy thing is...my Dad passed away in 2021...and watching this show recreated a “Dad feeling”...or a “Dad frequency” that was very comforting. Almost like he and I were watching this show together now in present day.

So today I was pondering on this in a reverse engineering sort of way. And I asked myself, “How many other things do I choose...not because I consciously want them...but because they recreate a familiar frequency?”

Using myself as an example again...I’ve noticed that in the past...if I were sad...I’d purposefully reach for playing sappy songs as if to perpetuate the feeling. Or if something happened that made me angry I’d go do some intense exercise...sometimes even boxing. (Felt good to hit something).

For me...this takes the study of frequency to the next level...because now I know...what I choose may in fact be driven by my habitual frequency field. The feeling behind the activity itself.

Some habitual choosing could be these….what restaurant. What side of the bed. The route you drive. The coffee mug. The perfume/cologne. The clothes. The playlist. The friends. The arguments. The way you organize your house. The way you procrastinate. The way you celebrate. The things you scroll.

Suddenly...Everything becomes a frequency habit!

But now...now that I see this...I cannot unsee it. Which means...I now have a different awareness to make choices from.

Is this a habit or is this something I truly want to do?

What is driving me to choose to turn on the news or a particular musical genre?

Are we in fact just repeating old (comfortable) versions of ourselves?

A very worthy question to ask here is this one: If I have spent years recreating familiar frequencies…
what new frequency do I actually want to practice?

Not someday.
Today!

I’m so excited to share with you this light-bulb moment I had today!
Because this changes EVERYTHING!

And I can’t wait to see how this all continues to unfold as I walk the journey towards understanding how frequency influences what we attract into our lives and ultimately how it affects what we can or cannot manifest because of our own habitual ruts blocking us from moving forward.

Start with notice what you’re noticing about yourself.

Feel free to chime in. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

Onward and upward!

Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:

Catch Yourself in the Act

For the next seven days, become a quiet observer of yourself.

Each time you find yourself reaching for something—a song, a TV show, a favorite restaurant, a familiar route home, a particular cup of coffee, even a certain emotion—pause for just a moment.

Ask yourself:

Why this?

Then ask a second question:

What feeling am I hoping this recreates?

Don't judge the answer.

Just notice.

Awareness is where new choices begin.

I’m honored you’re here walking this wildhearted path alongside me.

If this Field Notes stirred something in you, I’d love to hear what you discovered.

This week’s reflection grew out of an unexpected realization….that sometimes we're not freely making choices but we’re actually recreating familiar, comfortable feelings.

So now I'm curious...

What frequency habits might you begin to notice?

Perhaps it's the style of music you instinctively reach for...
the route you always drive...
the tv show you return to...
the first thing you do each morning...
or the familiar ways you respond when life feels joyful, uncertain, or overwhelming.

No need to judge them.
Simply notice them.

Because awareness creates choice.
And choice opens the door to something new.

If this resonated, hit reply. I'd genuinely love to hear what you're noticing in your own life.

Namaste,

Rachel
