To Everything, Turn, Turn, Turn — Field Notes with Rachel Dickson

02/26/26

Greetings, Wildhearted, Cycle-Keepers, Light-Followers, and Brave Becoming Ones.

If you were to ask me what my favorite season is you’d hear me say, Spring.

Spring is that time where things come back to life...and awaken from the long slumber of Winter. The smells, the return of the color green, longer daylight, warmer temps, the return of the songbirds.

I think much of my appreciation for Spring is because I love to be outside...and Winter restricts outdoor adventuring a bit. And then of course follows Summer and Fall.

Three seasons back-to-back-to-back that I enjoy immensely.

And yet, every year, when the shift begins, it feels like I’ve forgotten what’s coming...as if the arrival of change surprises me. Even though it comes whether I remember it or not.

Seasons or cycles matter. We live in a world of cycles. Circles of light and dark, heat and cold, growth and decay. And each of these cycles matter to the next.

And furthermore, throughout human history, these natural rhythms have been woven into culture, spiritual practice, agriculture, and timekeeping.

Each season tells a story. Spring is the tale of rebirth, summer of abundance, autumn of preparation, and winter of rest. These stories, told again and again across continents and centuries, bind us to the planet and to each other.

It seems as if I only remember the change of the seasons on or around the actual change. When with my senses I can observe the changing as it happens. Funny how when a change is happening right now...this is when we say, “oh look, Spring is almost here”.

But yet these changes are happening every moment of every day. It’s gradual change. The seasons don’t arrive in a fanfare...but rather in a slow unfolding as if holding the hand of the previous day and bridging to the next.

It’s easy for me to be oh so grateful for the divinity in the design of Earth and how everything is always moving...circling...cycling. The moon around the Earth, the Earth around the Sun...not to mention, Earth itself is constantly rotating.

Nothing sits still.

Funny how easy it is for me to forget this...and believe that everything is still and unmoving...when the reality is everything is moving constantly.

I need the reminder that change and cycles are the norm. Nothing stays the same.

Nature teaches me, again and again, to go with the flow. To allow. To soften my grip on what is now — because what is now is already becoming something else.

The sun will rise.
It will set.
And it will rise again.

Newborns don’t stay newborn.
Trees stretch toward the light.
The fox, the hare, the deer — all growing, adapting, cycling.

Everything is becoming.

I want to do better embracing these changes while also remaining deeply aware of the now. What an art form. What a Jedi practice this is to embrace the cycles of change.

Gardeners are getting excited right about now. Some have already begun to plant. Others are making preparation to plant. Growing food and flowers and herbs is one of Earth’s greatest gifts. How we can plant today and multiply our resources in the weeks and months to come.

The Full Worm Moon is just around the corner on March 3rd. This moon reminds us that new life is stirring just below the surface, and it’s time to call ourselves into action.

It is also said that March’s full Moon serves as a reminder that we are emerging from the depths of our personal and collective shadows, and stepping into the illuminating light of new possibilities and growth.

To everything there is a season.

May we trust the turning.
May we loosen our grip.
May we embrace the light of new possibilities...even before we can fully see them.

Namaste.

🌿 Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:

Track One Small Change

For the next seven days, choose one thing to observe daily:

  • The light at the same time each evening
  • A tree in your yard
  • The temperature of the morning air
  • Your own energy upon waking

Don’t analyze it.
Just notice.

At the end of the week, ask:
What changed that I almost missed?

This practice builds seasonal awareness — and quietly rewires the “nothing is happening” narrative.

3/11/26 Greetings, Wild-Hearts, Truth-Tellers, Light-Followers, and Builders of a Different Kind of Life. I too crave a different kind of buzz. From the very first time I heard the song Royals by Lorde, something about those lyrics captivated me. The words felt gritty and messy but also deeply real. I could sense there was truth hiding in them… but I struggled to understand the metaphors for a long time. If you want to get a better sense of what I’m talking about, take three minutes and...
