What We Practice, We Become — Field Notes with Rachel Dickson

5/28/26

Greetings Adventurers, Jedi Apprentices, Morning Ritualists, Energy Guardians, and Mindful Travelers!

If you’ve been following this wildhearted work...then you might be picking up on a theme or a trail. Much of this work is linked directly to the Universal Law of Vibration and the knowing that what we think about we bring about….or that our vibration directly affects what we attract into our lives.

That said, I’m a big believer in if I’m going to guide something or teach something...I want to have experienced it first. So I continue to cultivate daily practices to grow my own knowing. And also to instill within myself a vibrational shift that anchors me into a more balanced state.

Most recently I’ve employed two practices that takes a total of about an hour upon waking up each day. The goal being to set an energetic intention while also grounding into my physical body essentially creating a mindfulness practice.

I have indeed noticed a shift in direction, purpose and motivation to name just a few ways that my days have unfolded recently. And I’m continuing this practice further to see what else transpires. (I am certain added physical strength and a stronger more clear mental/spiritual mindset will occur over time).

Here’s this simple practice...divided into two 20 or 30 minute segments.

Segment one: Yoga with Adriene on Youtube.
I’ve been reminded that so much of the benefits of yoga has to do with breathing and mindfulness.

Adriene and her dog Benji have dozens and dozens of 20-30 minute yoga sessions that are easy to complicated...you pick. I like the “yoga in the morning” series.

Segment two: Meditation.
Whether you sit on your cushion on the floor, spine straight, eyes closed and you go inward on your own...or whether you listen to any number of guided meditations available in audio or video format...what matters is that you do this.

I’ve most recently discovered the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh where he speaks of the first most important step in meditation as focusing on the in-breath and then focusing on the out-breath (the Buddha himself also taught this). This is a fundamental meditation practice and I’d suggest doing this to start. Because it allows you to train your mind to relax and concentrate on one thing versus your mind going willy nilly all over the place.

So these two practices combined are 45-60 minutes and an excellent way to begin your day. I can’t begin to describe how much better I feel after doing both.

I like to call these my Jedi practices because it reminds me that to regularly do activities that engage my body and my mind is in fact a spiritual practice as well. I know that I am conditioning my body and mind and essentially training my senses to follow my lead.

Do you have practices that you cultivate like these? And if so, how have you found it to strengthen you?

This is truly a journey we find ourselves on. An adventurous journey that challenges me each and every day to stay aware, work at being present, and choose to go through life as the gatekeeper of my energy field.

Namaste.

Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:

Train your attention gently.
For five minutes each day, focus only on your breathing.
In-breath.
Out-breath.
When your mind wanders, simply return to your breath.
And in doing so...you are training your mind to concentrate and focus and listen.

I’m honored you’re here walking this wildhearted path alongside me.
If this Field Notes stirred something in you, I’d love to hear what practices are helping you stay grounded, present, and connected to yourself right now.

Maybe you’ve discovered your own morning ritual…
a quiet cup of coffee before the world wakes up…
a walk…
a yoga practice…
a meditation cushion…
or simply a few conscious breaths before the day begins pulling at your attention.

Or maybe you’re just beginning to notice how much your energy, thoughts, and focus shape the way you move through the world.

What are you cultivating these days?
And how is it changing you?

If this resonated, hit reply. I’d genuinely love to hear what’s unfolding in your own journey.

Namaste,
Rachel

P.S. Thank you for being here.

5/20/26 Greetings Creators, Collaborators, Focus-Finders, Habit-Breakers, and Hope-Bringers! Some dear friends of mine introduced me to the game of pickleball a few years back. And let me just tell you...I fell in love with this game. For so many reasons. Here’s one...deployment of a Jedi practice. For those who may not know: in pickleball, you can only score a point when you’re the server. But here’s the catch—if your serve doesn’t land cross-court inside the correct boundary, it’s a...

5/06/26 I’ve been thinking about thinking lately...and also about routines we create and repeat each day to navigate necessary tasks. And then the habits that often seemingly just default out of the routine. I’ve wondered just how long...how many months and years will we continue the same repeatable patterns? How long or even what does it take for us to awaken from our habitual slumber? Without question one of the answers is major life-changes like job changes, divorce or loss of our pets....

4/15/26 Hello Wild Souls, Song-Carriers, Quiet Listeners, and Those Tuning Themselves to What Matters! Image by Kev from Pixabay.com Happy to declare—April is officially my favorite month of the year. Why? Yesterday (and a few days before that), I was serenaded by a Carolina Wren. He perched himself on the top railing of my deck and sang at the top of his lungs. It was mesmerizing… watching the soft feathers on his throat trilling as he called out. He’d sing—then pause, as if listening.Then...
