Hey you—yes, you—sharing this road with the rest of us… Field Notes with Rachel Dickson

11/21/25

Hello, quiet souls finding meaning in ordinary moments.

A Note on Gratitude (and a Slow Driver)

I didn’t feel inspired when I sat down to write this.

No big revelation.
No thunderbolt of insight.
Just a small memory from my moment on the road.

There was a driver in front of me going slower than I wanted.

You know that feeling — the tightening, the impatience, the silent wishing they would just move along.

And then something unexpected happened.

I thought:
What if?

What if that driver wasn’t there?
What if suddenly no one else was here on Earth?

No other cars.
No other people.
Just me, driving down an empty road on a silent planet.

For a second, it sounded peaceful…
and then it felt unbearably lonely.

And right there —
My irritation dissolved.

In its place:
Gratitude.

Gratitude that someone else was here.
Gratitude that I wasn’t the only one breathing, moving, trying, living on this planet.

Even if they were driving too slow for my liking.

Maybe that’s what gratitude really is…
Not a big, dramatic thank-you for perfect circumstances —
But a quiet awareness that we don’t have to do life alone.

Even our inconveniences are proof of company.

And today, a slow driver reminded me of that.

Carry on.

Wild-Heart Practice of the Week:

The Slow Road Practice

This week, when someone slows you down —
in traffic, in conversation, in life —
pause instead of pushing past.

Ask yourself:
What if this delay is a reminder that I’m not alone?

Let your frustration soften into awareness.
Let it become gratitude before you move on.

As the season of thanks approaches,
I find myself most grateful not for perfection —
but for presence.

For the people beside us.
Ahead of us.
Behind us.

Even if they slow us down.

Grateful for you.
Until next time...in love and light! Namaste.
Rachel

01/07/26 Hello, wildhearted, truth-tellers, hope-dealers and beautiful souls! The Uncomfortable Middle So here we are...staring into the face of 2026. And I feel a bit...discombobulated. Sometimes the space after the old is cleared (thank you 2025...definitely a “deep clean” of a year) feels a lot like a train that’s loaded but hasn’t left the station yet. Some passengers are still saying their goodbyes, while others are just arriving, and the platform hums with unfinished business,...
